Twin
Valley - Roy Lerud, 81, died on Thursday, June
5, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo,
N.D.
Funeral
services were held on Sunday, June 8 at the Twin
Valley Community Center with the Rev. Earl Schmidt
officiating. The Lerud family provided special
music. Casketbearers and honorary casketbearers
were Roy's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Twin
Valley.
Roy
Kenneth Lerud was born in Home Lake Township of
Norman County on May 13, 1922, the son of Emil and
Selma (Haugen) Lerud. He attended District 63
country school through the eighth grade and
graduated from Northwest School of Agriculture in
Crookston in 1940.
On June
15, 1946, he married Ruth Yost in Ada, where he was
employed by the Glen Carnick Stock Farms. In 1949,
the couple moved to the family farm in Home Lake
Township. They farmed until 1990. At that time,
they moved into Twin Valley.
Survivors
include his wife, Ruth; children, Lowell (Sandy) of
Twin Valley, Lois Gilbertson of Shawnee, Kan.,
Sylvia (John) Rhoden of Union Center, S.D., Beth
(Wendell) Sip of Ada, and David Hughes of Belfast,
Northern Ireland, who joined the family in 1973 at
the age of 9; 13 grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret (Wayne) Garr
of Grand Forks, N.D., Ruth Lerud of Roseville,
Lucille Wayda of Overland Park, Kan., Phylis Lerud
of Denver, Colo., and JoAnne (Merl) Needham of
Littleton, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Roy was
preceded in death by his parents and two brothers,
Anton Lester and Erling.
