Fern Leigh, 79

Newfolden - Fern Leigh, 79, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at Fern Leigh obit 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 25, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Gary Barrett officiating. Casketbearers included Russel Floberg, Boyd Wilson, Kent Scholin, Pat Mevisson, Dave Christenson, and Laurel Moe. All of Fern's grandchildren and great-grandchildren served as honorary casketbearers. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden.

Fern Clarice Anderson was born on May 10, 1922 in Absarokee in Stillwater County in Montana, the daughter of James Phillip and Elsie Clara (Morrison) Anderson. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Absarokee where she grew up.

On October 29, 1940, Fern was united in marriage to Robert Edward Leigh in Columbus, Mont. The couple resided in Montana until 1950 when they moved to Newfolden where they farmed for many years. Robert died in 1999.

Fern was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Newfolden.

She enjoyed flowers and gardening, crossword puzzles, and listening to country music.

Fern is survived by two daughters, Yvonne (Laurel) Moe of Argyle and Joyce Mann of St. Francis; a son, Alan (Patricia) Leigh of Chugiak, Alaska; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Leeper of Warm Springs, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Helen Wagner; an infant brother, Donald; an infant grandchild; and a son-in-law, Gary Mann. A00003B2002FB30
