Marie Lehrer, 91

Red Lake Falls - Marie Lehrer, 91, died on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 9 Lehrer, Marie a.m. on Wednesday, August 20 (today) at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with the Rev. Jeffrey S. Lytle officiating. Casketbearers will be Mark Lehrer, Brian Lehrer, Jim Lehrer, John Flage, Lon Flage and Chuck Flage. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Immanuel Cemetery in Wylie.

Marie Matilda Busse was born in Wylie on July 18, 1912, the daughter of Henry and Louis (Weiss) Busse. She attended the Little Red School in Brown's Creek through the eighth grade.

On October 18, 1933 Marie was united in marriage to Arnold W. Lehrer in Wylie. The couple farmed in Red Lake Falls Township all their lives. Marie was very active at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wylie and later at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls.She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for 55 years. She sang in the choir for 50 years, served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of the Ladies Aid. She also served on many committees and was a 4-H leader. Marie always had a large vegetable and flower garden on the farm and loved her flowers.

After Arnold died in 1986, she stayed on the farm until 1992 and then moved to Fairview Manor in Red Lake Falls. She moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home in February 1999.

Survivors include one son, Ronald G. (Maureen) of Georgetown, Texas; three grandchildren; sisters, Alma Zwingelberg of Kansas, Geraldine Flage of Red Lake Falls and Lucille Lehrer of Red Lake Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; her parents; five brothers, Harold, George, John, Albert and Adolph Busse; and two sisters, Sophie Busse and Frieda Zutz. A00003B2003AG20
