Walfred Larson, 72

Strandquist - Walfred "Wally" Larson, 72, died Saturday, July 28, 2001 at his home in Strandquist.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, at Larson obit Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist with Rev. Philip Rokke officiating. Orpha Schaffhauser was the organist, and Everett Englund and Vangie Carlson was the soloists. Casketbearers were Douglas Hendrickson, Ricky Carlson, LeRoy Hougard, Glenn Erickson, Dean Holmstrom and Donavan Donarski. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Walfred John Larson was born on August 19, 1928 in West Valley township of Marshall county, the son of Carl and Bertha (Holmstrom) Larson. He was baptized at Mamrelund Lutheran Church near Strandquist in 1928 and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church near Newfolden. He attended Oakridge country school in Wright township of Marshall county.

On April 13, 1949, Wally was united in marriage Phyllis Erickson at Bethel Lutheran Church in Karlstad. The couple made their home on the Larson family farm in West Valley township of Marshall county.

Wally farmed and owned a trucking firm which hauled turkeys for Land O' Lakes for a number of years. For several years, he also worked as a substitute bus driver for Tri Valley Bus.

He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and was an organizer of its cemetery association.

Wally is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Strandquist; a son, Wayne (Patricia) Larson of Strandquist; two daughters, Ginger (Patrick) Passa of Newfolden and Sheila (Robert) Bielski of Franklin, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Larson and Bertha Larson Scholin; and two sisters, Emphrie Hougard and Mildred Carlson. A00003B2001AG01
