Vernon
Larson, 67
Tacoma,
Wash. - Vernon Larson, 67, formerly of Holt,
died Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at his home in Tacoma,
Wash.
Funeral
services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July
23, at Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River
Falls with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Burial
as in Holt Cemetery in Holt.
Vernon
Thomas Larson was born on June 18, 1934 in Holt,
the son of Irvin and Donella "Dolly" (Taylor)
Larson. He was raised in the Holt area and attended
a rural school. Vernon served in the United States
Air Force and was stationed in Albuquerque,
N.M.
In
1955, he married Mary Ann Tarpley. Following his
honorable discharge from the Air Force, Vernon
worked at the paper mill in International
Falls.
He
married Dottie Becher in 1968 and worked for
several farmers in North Dakota and northwestern
Minnesota.
Vernon
was employed at Armour in St. Paul prior to moving
to Kimball, Neb. where he worked as a farmer for 23
years. In February of 1995, he moved to Tacoma,
Wash. where he had since resided.
He
enjoyed fishing and going to the mountains and was
a fan of Minnesota professional sports.
Vernon
is survived by his mother, Dolly Larson of Thief
River Falls; four sons, Thomas Larson of Santa
Rosa, Calif., Robert (Michelle) Larson of Longmont,
Colo., Michael (Katherine) Larson of Gering, Neb.
and Todd (Cherylee) Larson of Tacoma, Wash.; six
daughters, Cheryl Cox of Dayton, Ohio, Brenda
(Nieves) Marquez and DeAnna (Richard) Villarreal,
both of Kansas City, Mo., Pamela Brodie of
Marquette, Iowa, and Dawn Block and Deborah Larson,
both of Tacoma, Wash.; his former wife, Dottie
Larson (mother of Mike, Todd and Debbie) of Elk
River; a stepdaughter, Brenda Blaine of Elk River;
20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Gordon (Rheta) Larson of Holt and Roger
(Judy) Larson of Strandquist; two sisters, Margery
Kincade of Woodbury and Donna Larson of Thief River
Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his father; first wife,
Mary Marold; and a daughter, Sandra.
