Oklee
- Selma Larson, 87, died on Friday, May 16,
2003 at McIntosh Manor in McIntosh.
Funeral
services will be held at 10:30 a.m on Thursday, May
22 at Salem Lutheran Church in Oklee with the Rev.
Bob Paulson officiating. Marion Marquis will be the
organist and Donna Fossum will be the soloist.
Interment will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in
rural Oklee. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8
p.m. on Wednesday, May 21 with a 7 p.m. prayer
service at the Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in
Oklee. Visitation will also be held for one hour
prior to services at the church on
Thursday.
Selma
Erickson was born on November 17, 1915, the
daughter of Edward L. and Marget (Nereson)
Erickson, in Equality Township of Red Lake County.
She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran
Church. She attended Sunnyside Country School in
Equality Township.
Selma was
united in marriage to Alfred Larson on August 6,
1935. The couple made their home in Equality
Township. Alfred died in 1954. After his death,
Selma continued to raise her family on the family
farm. Then she went out to work. Throughout the
years, Selma worked at various jobs, including at a
nursing home in the Twin Cities, then in Havre,
Mont., where she worked in a restaurant for five
years. She retired from St. Ansgar Hospital in
Moorhead and in the mid-1970s returned to Oklee. In
April 2001, she moved to McIntosh Manor, where she
has since resided.
Selma
loved traveling with her kids and grandchildren to
Nashville, Hawaii, Norway, and many other places.
Her family was very special to her and she loved
spending time with them. She also enjoyed being
outside. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church,
where she was active in the Ladies
Group.
Survivors
include two children, Elaine Williamson of
Missoula, Mont., and Eddie (Sharon) of Oklee; 16
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters,
Caroline Rendahl of Fosston, and Evelyn Hanson of
Clearbrook; and many nieces and nephews.
Selma was
preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; her
parents; daughters, Catheryn Steiger and Ann Wilde;
one son, John; sisters, Annie Vake, Hannah Vake,
Laura Erickson and an infant sister, Laura; two
grandsons; and one great-grandson.
