The couple made their home in Moorhead where he worked for Moorhead Public Schools, serving as a junior and senior high school teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal and assistant basketball coach, from 1947 until his retirement in 1986. In retirement, he traveled, spent winters in Arizona and summers at Fish Lake, and was active in his church, Bethesda Lutheran Church.
