Gunsten Larson, 81

Oklee - Gunsten Larson, 81, died Sunday, September 23, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, at Salem Lutheran Church near Oklee with Rev. Robert Paulson officiating. Marian Marquis will be the organist, and a duet will be presented by Lori Melby and Tonya Melby. Casketbearers will be Ronald Hegge, Gene Hegge, Bob O'Niell, Leslie O'Niell, Steve Dahlen and Joel Dahlen. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service today (Wednesday, September 26) at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Gunsten Larson was born on November 4, 1919 in Garnes Township of Red Lake County, the son of Mikkel and Gryo "Gertie" (Skreland) Larson. He later moved with his family to Equality Township.

On January 26, 1952, he was united in marriage to Arlene Heieren at Minneapolis. The couple returned to the Larson family farm where Gunsten farmed his entire life. He also worked at Arctic Enterprises in Thief River Falls and Northern Sun Products in Gonvick. Arlene died in 1998.

Gunsten was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Oklee.

He enjoyed reading, driving around looking at crops, tinkering in his yard and visiting with people.

Gunsten is survived by two daughters, Marla Larson of Helena, Mont. and Grace (Mike) Dessellier of Oklee; a son, Jim (Florence) Larson of Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a half brother, Lars Larson; and five half sisters, Helga, Berta, Caroline, Petra and Gunda.
