Blanche Larson, 95

Janesville, Wisc. - Blanche O. Larson, 95, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Cedar Crest Care Center in Janesville, Wisc.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial services were held on Monday, April 9, at Cedar Crest Health Care Center in Janesville with Rev. Herm Lehman and Rev. Glenn Skatrud officiating.

Blanche O. Greenland was born on January 30, 1906 in Binford, N.D., the daughter of Oscar and Bertha (Lier) Greenland. She was one of the first female students to letter at the University of North Dakota where she graduated in 1927.

On August 12, 1942, Blanche married Philip R. Larson in Crookston. He died on March 26, 1946.

Blanche taught Latin and mathematics at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls for 40 years until her retirement in 1971.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and a a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beloit. In 1984, she was named Pennington County Outstanding Senior Citizen for her work in promoting the building of Heritage Community Center for senior citizens.

She was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and a strong support of sports activities at Lincoln High School. In 1999, she was inducted into the Prowler Hall of Fame.

Blanche is survived by a son, Rev. Richard (Joan) Larson of Greendale, Wisc.; a daughter, Gretchen Larson Otto of St. Paul; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; three sisters, Inez Ehlers of Spokane, Wash., Beatrice Swenson of Portland, Ore. and Helen Garry of Glendale, Wisc.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four sisters.
