Vernon Lappegaard, 75

Thief River Falls - Vernon Lappegaard, 75, died on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 30 at Abundant Life Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Wesley Langaas officiating. Bev Kays was the organist. Casketbearers were Randy Olson, Brad Stewart, Randy Nelson, Jerry Larson, Clayton Molstad and Steve Lappegaard. Honorary casketbearers were his friends at Dee's Kitchen. Interment was at Camp Ripley Cemetery in Little Falls. Military honors were accorded by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793, both of Thief River Falls.

Vernon E. Lappegaard was born on May 29, 1927, the son of Henry and Inga (Lokken) Lappegaard in Thief River Falls. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. He attended Country School near Rosewood and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. Vernon entered the U.S. Navy on May 29, 1945 and received an honorable discharge on June 16, 1946.

Vernon worked at Model Laundry, drove truck for Glendenning in Thief River Falls for many years and also worked part-time for Cenex. He also worked for area farmers and helped with the gardening for many local people. He enjoyed driving truck, gardening, hunting, fishing, bowling, taking pictures and driving Snowcats. Vernon volunteered with the American Legion and VFW and delivered Meals on Wheels. He loved playing guitar with local bands and also played steel guitar, violin and mandolin. Vernon especially loved to spend time with his nieces and nephews. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles and the Pennington County Sportsman's Club.

Survivors include a sister, Marlene (Leonard) Olson of Thief River Falls; five nieces and nephews; 15 great-nieces and nephews; and three great great-nieces and nephews.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents. A00003B2002DC04
