Freeman Lanska, 84

Thief River Falls - Freeman Lanska, 84, died Thursday, July 12, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 Lanska Obit p.m. today, Wednesday, July 18, at Abundant Life Free Lutheran Church with Rev. Wesley Langaas officiating. Bev Kays will be the organist, and the soloist will be Diane Johnson. Casketbearers will be Noah Waldera, Cody Waldera, Teal Waldera, Michael Stetson and Natalie Havice. Honorary casketbearers will be Lloyd Hogenson, Barry Fellman, Rick Jensen, Dave Salvhus, Barry Newton, Jerry Stenseth, and all of Freeman's lifelong friends and acquaintances from the Thief River Falls Fire Department and Abundant Life Free Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Freeman Emil Lanska was born on November 7, 1916 in Thief River Falls, the son of Adolf and Hattie (Koglin) Lanska. He grew up on a farm in Steiner township of Pennington county and attended a country school there. Freeman moved to Thief River Falls and worked at various jobs.

On December 8, 1939, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Tunheim. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Freeman raised hogs and was a fireman in Thief River Falls for more than 30 years. After retiring from the Thief River Falls Fire Department, he continued to farm until he was 70.

He was actively involved at Abundant Life Free Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing smear at the fire hall with his friends.

Freeman is survived by two daughters, Virginia (Don) Waldera of Silverthorne, Colo. and Ramona (Don) Stetson of Muncie, Ind.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Barnard and Orville; and a sister, LaVerne Lanska. A00003B2001JL18
