Greenbush - Katie Madeline Lilly Langaas, 94, died on Monday, July 5, 2004 at the Greenbush Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of rural Greenbush, with Pastor Wesley Langaas officiating.

Katie was born in Greenbush on October 19, 1909, the daughter of Christ and Gunda (Wattrud) Dallager. She grew up and attended school in the Greenbush area and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. After the death of her mother at an early age, she helped care for her brothers and sisters.

Katie was united in marriage to John Arthur Langaas on May 7, 1931 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of rural Greenbush and the two made their home and farmed in Lind Township until moving into Greenbush in 1959. Katie started working as a midwife in the mid 1920's and continued for many years while she and John farmed. She later went on to work at the turkey plant in the late 1950s and then worked for the Klefstad family for a number of years and was later employed at the Greenbush Nursing Home and Hospital. Katie took time off from work to raise her children and then returned to work at the Greenbush Nursing Home.

John died on January 31, 1983, and Katie continued to make her home in Greenbush and work at the nursing home, which she retired from at the age of 89.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bethlehem Ladies Aid, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Katie enjoyed knitting, sewing and making stuffed animals. She loved to cook, bake and above all else, feed people when they came to visit.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth (Loretta) Langaas of Greenbush; one daughter, Joyce (Charles) Snyder of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Willie Dallager of Park Rapids; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
