Marian Kukowski, 91

Greenbush - Marian Susan Kukowski, 91, died on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at the Roseau Area Hospital in Roseau.

Funeral services were held on Marian Kukowski Wednesday, February 19 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush with the Rev. Don Braukmann officiating. Alice Blawat was the organist. Casketbearers were Marian's sons, Leonard, Leroy, Kenneth, Ernest, Norbert and Daniel. Honorary casketbearers were all those who attended the service. Interment was in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Leo.

Marian Susan Wirkus was born on June 16, 1911, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Briski) Wirkus in Leo, near Greenbush. She grew up and attended school there and was baptized and confirmed at St. Aloysius Catholic Church.

On November 12, 1929, Marian was united in marriage to John L. Kukowski in Leo. The couple farmed in Barto Township for many years. Marian was a long-time member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and was active in church affairs. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. When her husband died in 1971, she continued to live on the farm until 1993, when she moved into Greenbush.

Survivors include six sons, Leonard of Greenbush, Kenneth (Marcy) of Belton, Mo., Ernest (Darlene) of Elk River, Daniel (Donna) of Viking, Norbert (Judy) of Lancaster and Leroy (Kris) of Big Bend, Wisc.; three daughters, Elinor (Jerry) Koshenina of Greenbush, Vangie (Rodger) Gramstad of Rogers and Mary Jean (Gerry) Shelby of Blaine; 28 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; two granddaughters; and several half-brothers and sisters.
