Lake Falls - John Kuiper, 94, died Friday,
April 27, 2001 at his home in Red Lake
Falls.
Mass
of Christian burial was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday,
May 1, at St.
Joseph's
Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim
Bushy officiating. Kathie Knott was the organist,
and special music was provided by St. Joseph's
Church Choir. Casketbearers were Randy Kuiper, Sam
Kuiper, Corey Kuiper, Aaron Kuiper, Eric Kuiper and
Brig Knott. Interment was in St. Joseph's Catholic
Cemetery in Red Lake Falls with Johnson Funeral
Service in charge of the arrangements.
John
Kuiper was born on March 5, 1907 in Parkersburg,
Iowa, the son of Harm and Marie (Stubbe) Kuiper. In
1909, he moved with his family to southern
Minnesota where he started school. In 1917, the
family moved to Mayfield township of Pennington
county near Plummer where they farmed.
On
February 3, 1931, John was united in marriage to
Evelyn Duffy at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red
Lake Falls. The lived in various areas of Red Lake
county before December of 1940 when they moved to
their current home in Red Lake Falls.
From
1939 to 1944, John worked for Smith Paper Company
of Red Lake Falls. In 1944, he leased the Mobile
Service Station and operated it until 1948. From
1948 to 1954, he worked as a mechanic for George
Thibert at Thibert Chevrolet and Buick. In 1954, he
purchased John's Mileage Service which he operated
until he sold the business and retired in 1972. He
then began working for Petterson Funeral Home and
continued there until 1995. John also worked as an
on-call police officer for Red Lake Falls for
several years.
He
was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic
Church in Red Lake Falls, served on the board of
directors for the Credit Union in Red Lake Falls,
was a member of the Minnesota Sheriffs Association
and Ducks Unlimited for many years.
John
enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and playing
cards.
Survivors
include his wife, Evelyn Kuiper of Red Lake Falls;
a daughter, Marion (William) Doyle of Apple Valley;
three sons, Ted (Rosie) Kuiper of Belton, Mo., Gary
(Joanne) Kuiper of Gambrills, Md. and Tim (Jane)
Kuiper of Mankato; 10 grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Denizen of
St. Paul, Anna Brooks of St. Paul, Jeannie Halfaway
of Mounds View and Rickie Oien of Roseville; two
brothers, Albert (Irene) Kuiper of Jeffers and
George Kuiper of Weyburn, Saskatchewan,
Canada.
John
was preceded in death by his parents; three
brothers, Ted Kuiper, Herman Kuiper and Ben Kuiper;
and two sisters, Marie Kuiper and an infant sister.
