Thief
River Falls - Delbert "Bert" Kron, 94, died on
Saturday, September 27, 2003 at Hillcrest Nursing
Home in Red Lake Falls.
Funeral
services were held on
Tuesday,
September 30 at the United Methodist Church in
Thief River Falls with the Rev. Dan Horn
officiating. Casketbearers were Bert's
grandchildren, Jill Wright, Trevor Wright, Erica
Kron, Jacob Kron, Nicholas Roppe and Gretchen
Roppe. Honorary casketbearers were the Viking Town
and Country Garden Club. Interment was in Park
Ridge Cemetery in Norden Township of Pennington
County.
Delbert
"Bert" Laurence Kron was born on January 16, 1909
in Norden Township of Red Lake County, the son of
Axel and Hilda (Lorenson) Kron. He attended
Willowdale School in Norden Township and was
baptized at the Methodist Church. He worked for
several years in western North Dakota and in a CC
Camp in Montana before returning to the Thief River
Falls area, where he worked for area
farmers.
On
October 11, 1946, he married Joyce Meyer in Thief
River Falls. The couple farmed in the Rosewood area
of New Solum Township in Marshall County. He also
worked for Peterson-Biddick Feed Company in Thief
River Falls, retiring in 1980. The couple moved to
Thief River Falls in 1998.
Bert
had a love of nature. He planted hundreds of trees,
enjoyed the serenity of the woods and the peace and
quiet of fishing. A favority pastime for Bert was
traveling to western North Dakota and exploring the
Badlands. He especially loved spending time with
his family. He enjoyed picnicking and playing
horseshoes. He was a member of the Viking Town and
Country Garden Club for over 30 years and was a
member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors
include his wife, Joyce; four children, Karen
(Glenn) Odberg of Paynesville, Keith (Diane) of
Paola, Kan., Laura (Orland) Roppe of Moorhead and
Leonard (Bonnie Schock) of St. Paul; five
grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
Bert
was preceded in death by his parents; four
brothers, Walter, Ray, Elmer and Clarence; and two
sisters, Ethel Arnell and Laura Carlson.
