Thief
River Falls - Fern Kopecky, 73, died on
Thursday, May 20, 2004 at Northwest Medical Center
in Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services were held on Monday, May 24 at Black River
Lutheran Church in rural St. Hilaire, with Rev.
Mark Helgeland officiating. Casket bearers included
Benjamin Kopecky, Dennis Newell, Leroy Ferencik,
Paul Vonasek, Ted Vonasek, Bob Moore, Steve Newell
and Bill Kopecky. Honorary casket bearers included
all of Fern's friends at Skylight Apartments.
Interment followed at Czeh National Cemetery in
Tabor.
Fern
Evangeline Kleven was born on July 7, 1930 in
Kennedy, the daughter of Lars and Mary (Hedlund)
Kleven. She was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran Faith and attended rural Alvarado area
schools, graduating from Alvarado High School in
1949.
Fern
was united in marriage on October 2, 1949 to
Rudolph Kopecky at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in
East Grand Forks. The couple lived on a farm in the
Tabor, area until 1954, when they moved to rural
Thief River Falls, where they resided until October
1989. Fern and Rudolph moved into Thief River Falls
in 1989. Following her husband's death on March 5,
1993 Fern moved to the Skylite Apartments in Thief
River Falls, where she resided until her
death.
Fern
was a Homemaker, she enjoyed gardening and caring
for her family. Her biggest joy was her
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Fern
was a member of Black River Lutheran Church and the
Ladies Aid and the American Legion
Auxiliary.
Fern
is survived by one daughter, Linda K. Rodahl
(fiancé, Richard Kotaska) of Grafton, N.D.;
one son, David (Linda) Kopecky of Roosevelt; four
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one
sister, Mae Newell of East Grand Forks; three
brothers, Miles (Lora Jean) Kleven of East Grand
Forks, David (Frieda) Kleven of Northwood, N.D. and
Earl (Esther) Kleven of Vancouver, Wash.;
sisters-in-law, Millie Kleven of Warren; Melvina
Kleven of Vancouver, Wash.; and several nieces and
nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph on
March 5, 1993; her parents; one sister, Hulda
Ferenick; eight brothers, Calvin, Milton, Earl,
Verner, Arvid, Leonard, Ernest and
William.
