Roger Konikson, 70

Erskine - Roger Konikson, 70, died on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3 at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Peter Satren officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday, April 2 at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Military honors will be accorded by the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine and the McIntosh VFW Post #6891.

Roger Clayton Konikson was born on December 3, 1932, the son of George W. and Kathryn C. (Grover) Konikson, in Erskine. He grew up in the Erskine area and graduated from Erskine High School in 1950. He entered the United States Navy on March 27, 1951 and served on aircraft carriers as an aviation mechanic during the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge on March 3, 1955 and returned to Erskine.

On February 2, 1956, he married Shirley R. Page in Red Lake Falls. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, S.D.

On July 14, 1972, Roger married Arleen Peters-Finch in Sioux Falls, S.D. The couple lived in Sioux Falls until 1999, when they retired and moved to Erskine. Roger was employed with Ozark Airlines for many years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine, the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596, and the McIntosh VFW Post #6891. He was also active in the Senior Meals Program of Erskine. He liked the outdoors, hunting, fishing and trap shooting.

Survivors include his wife, Arleen of Erskine; three daughters, Connie (Bruce) Ferrie of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kathy (Tom) Schroeder of North Platte, Neb., and Julie (Dave) Houchins of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren; one brother, Gaylord (Sandy) of Seattle, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Pearl Konikson of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George "Tiny" Konikson.
