Silas Kompelien, 80

Dallas, Texas - Silas B. Kompelien, 80, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on August 20, 2002 in Dallas, Texas.

Memorial services were held on Friday, August 23 at the Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel in Minneapolis. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Silas B. Kompelien was born on March 21, 1922, the son of Oluf and Bella (Rensla) Kompelien, in Pennington County. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. Silas served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota.

On December 24, 1945, he married Dorothy Jensen. The couple lived in Bloomington where Silas worked for IDS. They later moved to Walker where he worked for the Cass County Welfare Department. The couple spent their retirement in Harlingen, Texas until February, 2002 when they moved to Dallas to be near their son and his family.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Patricia (Robert) Woodbury of Moorhead; three sons, Wayne (Peggy) of Dallas, Texas, Larry (Jodi) of Blaine and Craig (Barbara) of Savage; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Everett (Arlette) of Thief River Falls; two sisters, Orlanda Ericksson of Bemidji and Pearl Ramsland of Isle; 14 nieces and nephews; and several cousins and many friends.

Silas was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and two brothers-in-law.
