Marie Kolb, 78

Mentor - Marie Kolb, 78, died on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at St. Benedict Senior Community in St. Cloud.

Mass of Christian Burial was Kolb, Marie held on Monday, September 30 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mentor with Monsignor Roger Grundhaus officiating. Cecily McGlynn was the organist and Rick Taufen was the soloist. The solo was "Ave Maria." Steve Kolb and Elaine Taufen were the readers and Jim and Monica Mogen were the eucharistic ministers. Casketbearers were Jim Mogen Jr., Justin Mogen, Jeremy Kolb, Nathan Kolb and Michael Kolb. Interment was in St. Lawrence Cemetery in Mentor.

Marie Violette was born on April 21, 1924, the daughter of Emery and Agnes (Lacoursiere) Violette in Red Lake Falls. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and attended St. Joseph's School, both in Red Lake Falls.

On June 4, 1945, she was united in marriage to Raymond Kolb at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. The couple lived in Red Lake Falls for a short time and in 1947, they made their home on a farm in Grove Park Township near Mentor. They raised their nine children there.

Marie worked as an assistant cook for the Mentor School for eight years and was a recorder for Royal Neighbors of America in Mentor for many years. On September 18, 1998, she entered Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls and on July 26, 1999, she moved to St. Benedict Senior Community in St. Cloud. Marie enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, cooking and canning. She loved to make clothes and quilts for her children and grandchildren. She especially treasured the times spent with her husband and children, whether it was at a picnic in the park or traveling throughout the United States. Marie was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mentor where she was active in the church choir and a member of the women's guild. Marie and Ray participated in many Cursillo and TEC retreats.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond of St. Cloud; nine children, Monica (James) Mogen of Aurora, Colo., Jerome (Nancy) of Minneapolis, Stephen (Deb) of Coon Rapids, David (Nancy) of Andover, Kenneth (Denise) of Littleton, Colo., Patrick (Lynn) of St. Paul, Dennis (Karyl) of Eatonville, Wash., Elaine (Richard) Taufen of St. Cloud and Gary (Roberta) of Fort Bragg, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Alice Walker of Minneapolis, Helen Vaudrin of Milwaukee, Wisc., Elizabeth Eddins of New Brighton and Julia Jablinske of Lynnwood, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leonard Violette; a sister, Rose Vaudrin; and an infant brother, Leo.
