Thief
River Falls - Selma Knutson, 93, died on
Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Hillcrest Nursing Home
in Red Lake Falls.
Funeral
services were held on
Saturday,
July 26 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River
Falls with the Rev. Donald Kirchner officiating.
Casketbearers were Arnold Hammer, Maurice Stenseth,
Arnie Geske, Bernie Weigel, Virgil Wold and Bob
Bredeson. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in
Thief River Falls.
Selma
Clara Beiswenger was born in Smiley Township of
Pennington County on October 26, 1909, the daughter
of Carl and Clara (Leibert) Beiswenger. She was
baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church.
She attended Hummer Elementary School in Smiley
Township and graduated from the Agriculture College
in Crookston in 1928. She worked in Detroit at
Woolwent from 1934 to 1936. She also attended and
graduated from Brady and Rogers Beauty School in
Minneapolis in 1937 and worked at different beauty
shops in Minneapolis, including Edna's Beauty
Shop.
On
November 26, 1942, Selma was united in marriage to
Joseph Knutson. She became a "Farmer's Wife" until
1950, when the couple moved to Golden Valley, where
they bought a "truck farm" of two acres and also
built a circle of houses. They moved back to Thief
River Falls in 1960. Selma enjoyed African Violets
of all colors, which she gave away to her
friends.
Survivors
include 11 nieces and nephews.
Selma
was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; four
brothers, Bruno, Theodore, Carl and Herman; and one
sister, Augusta Ristau.
