Katherine Knutson, 91

St. Paul - Katherine Knutson, 91, died Monday, September 3, 2001 at a St. Paul nursing home.

A memorial service was held Friday, September 7, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

Katherine "Kae" Marie Mellby was born on April 25, 1910 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Dr. O.F. and Louise (Grindeland) Mellby. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1918 and St. Olaf College in 1922.

She married Dr. Wallace Anderson in Thief River Falls where they resided for a short while. After Dr. Anderson was discharged from the military, the couple resided in Clearbrook where he established a medical practice.

Kae later married Oscar Knutson, Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court. The couple resided in Mendota Heights.

She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing, playing piano, sewing and needlework, especially hardanger.

Kae is survived by a son, Rolf (Irene) Anderson of Pueblo, Colo.; a stepson, Robert (Shirley) Knutson of St. Paul; a stepdaughter, Anne (Victor) Lee of St. Charles, Ill.; two grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth White of Boone, N.C.; and a brother, Paul Mellby of San Diego, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; a brother, Erling Mellby; a sister, Jean Anderson; and a stepson, Richard. A00003B2001SP26
