Elsie Knutson, 86

Thief River Falls - Elsie Knutson, 86, died on Monday, February 10, 2003 at the Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls. Elsie Knutson

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 14 at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with the Rev. Mary Gaebler officiating. Lois Peterson was the organist and Lois Anderson, Lois Peterson and Howard Hodne were the vocalists. Casketbearers were Kevin McKeever, Bob Brekke, Mick Brekke, David Rasmussen, Gordon Nelson, Dean Hemp, Scott McKeever, Brian Brekke and Jay Brekke. Honorary casketbearers were Elsie's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment was held in Moose River Cemetery in Gatzke.

Elsie Rasmussen was born on August 14, 1916, the daughter of Oscar and Ida (Olson) Rasmussen in Cedar Township of Marshall County. She attended rural school near Middle River. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

In September 1933, she was united in marriage to Guy Knutson. The couple farmed in the Thief Lake and Gatzke areas for many years, then moved to Middle River. Elsie was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Middle River and the Middle River American Legion Auxiliary for many years. Three years ago, she moved into Oakland Park Nursing Home, where she has since resided.

Survivors include a son, Terry (Annette) of Vadnais Heights; three daughters, Gladys (Darrell) Baker of Hawkins, Wisc., Gail Brekke of Plummer and Elaine (Noel) McKeever of Middle River; 14 grandchildren; many great- and great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elvina Kolden and Bertha Nelson, both of Middle River; special companion, Wally Mattson; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Vernon; a daughter, Shirley; six brothers, Fred, Henry, Walter, Elmer, John and Clarence; three sisters, Sena, Ellen and Anna; two sons-in-law; and a great-granddaughter. A00003B2003FB19
