Robert
Kertz, 71
Thief
River Falls - Robert Kertz, 71, died Tuesday,
April 17, 2001 at Phoenix, Ariz. where he had been
hospitalized for about a month.
Funeral
services will be held on Saturday, May 5, at 11
a.m.at St. Alphonsus Church in Langdon, N.D.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in
Langdon.
A
prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday,
May 4, at St. Alphonsus Church in
Langdon.
Robert
Joseph Kertz was born on August 13, 1929 at Nekoma,
N.D., the son of John L. and Rose (Wilhelmi) Kertz.
In 1930, the family moved to Langdon, N.D. where
Robert graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in
1947. He attended St. John's University at
Collegeville and Denver University at Denver,
Colo.
He
joined the Naval Air Cadet program in 1951 and
while on leave married his childhood sweetheart,
Donna Platz, on January 3, 1953. The couple resided
in New York City before Bob boarded the USS
Bennington for Cuba, returning months later to be
discharged on reserve status. He then helped run
different family businesses in Langdon until 1962
when he began a career in construction, first
working for a construction company in East Grand
Forks and then moving into construction management
with Sollitt Steel Construction Co. in South Bend,
Ind. in 1967. In 1976, he moved to Thief River
Falls where he joined his brother at Prichard Bros.
Construction Co. which eventually became Ram
Building Systems. After Harold's retirement, Bob
became president, a position he ld until his
retirement in 1999.
He
enjoyed golf, fishing, spending the winters in Lake
Havasu City, Ariz. and especially spending time
with his family during the summers at their Kenora,
Ont. lake home.
Bob
is survived by his wife, Donna; four sons, John of
Thief River Falls, Tom (Lynn) of Minnetonka,
Michael (Robyn) of Dallas, Texas and Joe (Martha)
of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Julie (James)
Rochat of Minnetonka, Mary (special friend, Ron
Stovall) of Fort Worth, Texas, Tracy (Paul) Phelps
of Eagan and Paula (Brad) Arthur of Apple Valley;
10 grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Marlyn) of
Alvarado and James (Liz) of Fargo, N.D. a
sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and three
brothers, John V., Francis and Victor
Kertz.
