Lawrence A. Kassa, 82

Brookings, Ore. &endash; Lawrence Andrew Kassa, 82, Brookings, Ore., died July 5, 2002 in Brookings.

He was born March 5, 1920 in Goodridge, to Michael and Anna Kassa. He grew up and attended school at rural Lundwood School, Reiner Township, Pennington County.

He moved to Brookings in 1952. He married Geraldine Golding November 27, 1965 in Brookings.

He served in the U.S. Army 743rd tank battalion, company C. He served in Europe through five campaigns and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Lawrence worked at South Coast Plywood in Brookings retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Star of the Sea Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include a brother, Albert Kassa, Spicer; a sister Louise Morgan, Prescott, Ariz., a sister Margaret Erlitz, Fremont, Calif. Also, step daughter Sara Hayes, a step granddaughter, and a step grandson of Brookings. Also surviving are two step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Lawrence Kassa was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geraldine, brothers Joseph and Paul, and sister Agnes (Mrs. Jay Rambeck).

Funeral services will be July 15 at the Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 820 Old County Road, Brookings, Ore. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1301 Northcrest Dr., Crescent City, CA 95531.
