Robert Kalbakdalen, 46

Red Lake Falls - Robert "Bob" Kalbakdalen, 46, died Friday, February 23, 2001 at his home in Red Lake Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, February 28) at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls with Rev. Troy Bates officiating. Carol Kankel and Matt Siekert will provide special music. Casketbearers will be Buzz Wilson, Greg Gervais, Paul Waldal, Corey Violette, Ryan Violette and Shaun Moran. Military honors will be provided by the Red Lake Falls American Legion Post. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.

Visitation will be held today from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Robert Maynard Kalbakdalen was born on July 7, 1954 in Red Lake Falls, the son of Maynard and Joan (Ford) Kalbakdalen. He grew up in Red Lake Falls where he graduated from Lafayette High School in 1972.

He entered the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Wabash in the Gulf of Tonkin and in San Francisco during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Red Lake Falls and worked at Northern Woodwork in Thief River Falls. For the past several years, he had been employed at Eagle Square in Red Lake Falls.

Bob enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening and politics.

He was a member of the Red Lake Falls American Legion Post.

Bob is survived by his parents, Maynard and Joan Kalbakdalen of Red Lake Falls; three sisters, Deb (Frank) Moran, Gail (Tony) Podenski and Lisa (Mark) Violette, all of Red Lake Falls; two brothers, Jeff (Deanne) Kalbakdalen of Red Lake Falls and Dan (Molly) Kalbakdalen of Fargo, N.D.; a daughter, Melissa Ann Soderman of Red Lake Falls; his grandmother, Gladys Kalbakdalen of Red Lake Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Melvin Kalbakdalen; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Eleanor Ford; and several uncles and aunts.
