Red
Lake Falls - Maynard Kalbakdalen, 67, died on
Friday, October 25, 2002 at Altru Hospital in Grand
Forks, N.D.
Funeral
services were held on
Tuesday,
October 29 at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake
Falls with Rev. Jeffrey S. Lytle officiating. Casey
Klipping was the organist. Casketbearers were Corey
Violette, Ryan Violette, Adam Violette, Shaun
Moran, Edward Cota, Junior Gervais, George Parker
and Ronnie Thorson. Honorary casketbearers were all
of Maynard's family and friends. Interment was in
Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.
Maynard
Kalbakdalen was born on November 1, 1934, the son
of Melvin and Gladys (Fisher) Kalbakdalen in
Grafton, N.D. He grew up and attended school in
Grafton, N.D. and then the family moved to Red Lake
Falls where he attended Lafayette High School. On
January 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to Joan
Ford at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake
Falls. Maynard worked for the Soo Line Railroad for
many years, retiring in 1994. He also farmed in the
Red Lake Falls area and recently, he worked at
Eagle Square in Red Lake Falls.
Maynard
enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, yard work,
reading and sports. He was a grandfather who
enjoyed his grandchildren. He helped form
Pathfinders snowmobile club and was active in
getting the golf club established. Maynard helped
put in the carpet greens and, later, helped get
grass greens. He also worked with the sportsman's
club and was involved in the TCU, serving as an
officer for several years.
Survivors
include his wife, Joan of Red Lake Falls; five
children, Jeff (Diane Josephson) of Red Lake Falls,
Daniel (Molly Fox) of Fargo, N.D., Debra (Frank)
Moran of Red Lake Falls, Gail (Tony) Podenski of
Red Lake Falls and Lisa (Mark) Violette of Red Lake
Falls; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
his mother, Gladys Kalbakdalen of Red Lake Falls;
two brothers, James (Joyce) of Red Lake Falls and
Dean of Red Lake Falls; one sister, Jean (Leo)
Ogletree of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
Maynard
was preceded in death by his father, Melvin; a
brother, Lowell; a sister, Marlys Audette; and a
son, Robert.
