Helen Margaret Jurchen, 78

Crookston - Helen Margaret Jurchen, 78, of Crookston died peacefully at her home on Friday, February 13, 2004.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday (today), Feb. 18, at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston, with the Rev. Bill Reck officiating.

Helen was one of 12 children born to the union of Ole and Stella Bjorgo. She was born on the family farm near Crookston, on September 15, 1925. She attended District 181 rural school and was a 1943 graduate of Central High School.

In 1947 she was united in marriage to Melvin Ranum and the couple made their home in Crookston. Besides the busy life of wife, mother to three sons and homemaker, Helen also was a career woman. She was employed in the offices of the Polk County Farm Bureau in Crookston and later in Milbank, S.D. Crookston continued to be home to the couple. Helen spent the last fifteen years working for the Northwest Regional Development Commision in Minnesota until retiring in February of 1988. Sadly, Bruno died on February 26, 1996. Helen was a very active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and WELCA and was the heart and soul of lefsa making at St. Paul's She had also been a longtime volunteer at the Polk County Museum and a member of the Polk County Historical Society.

Survivors include her three sons, Larry (JoAnn) and James (Leslie), all of Crookston, and William (Beverly) of Moorhead; a step-son Mark (Trudy) Jurchen of Pequot Lakes; two step-daughters, Kathy (Paul) Pinsonneault of Crookston and Karen Jurchen of Carlsbad, Calif. 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifford (Lucille) Bjorgo of Brainerd; two sisters, Eva Falkenreck of Seattle, Wash. and Dorothy Gregg of Fargo, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Bjorgo of Crookston and several nieces, nephews and other cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson; five brothers, Henry, Lloyd, Roy, Vernon and William Bjorgo; and three sisters, Marie Hoiseth, Ida Ingen and Barbara Bjorgo. A00003B2004FB18
