Melvin Jorgenson, 88

obit-Jorgenson, melvinWarren - Melvin Jorgenson, 88, died on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at the North Valley Health Center in Warren.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, Feb. 6 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Warren, with Rev. Mark Rittmann officiating. Casket bearers included Jason Jorgenson, Kenneth Jorgenson, Matthew Prior, Kevin Jorgenson, Larry Jorgenson, Brian Ranstrom, Gordon Jorgenson and David Jorgenson. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Warren.

Melvin E. Jorgenson was born on January 2, 1916 in rural Argyle, the son of George and Hannah (Myrfield) Jorgenson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Alma Lutheran Church. He attended country school in Argyle. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II from June of 1942 until October of 1945. He served in the European Theatre Operations and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Battle of the Bulge.

Melvin married Verna Jensen on December 11, 1942. After being discharged from the Army, he worked at various jobs in the Warren area. He was employed full-time with the city of Warren from 1959-1981. He was a part-time employee for an additional ten years. Melvin was also the custodian at Our Savior's Lutheran Church for 24 years. He entered the Good Samaritan Center in May of 2003.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Warren American Legion Post 27.

Melvin enjoyed fishing, wood working and gardening.

Survivors included his wife of 61 years; two children, Donald (Barbara) of St. Paul and Diane (John) Prior of Sisston, S.D.; five grandchildren; two brothers, George "Hillman" (Jane) of Iron and Vernon (Joan) of Thief River Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, James; his parents; four brothers: Oliver, Alton, Clifford and Lloyd; and an infant sister, Gladys. A00003B2004FB11
