Chester Jorde, 78

Thief River Falls - Chester Jorde, 78, died on Monday, December 9, 2002 at the SCCI Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Jorde, Chester Friday, December 13 at Abundant Life Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Wesley Langaas officiating. Bev Kays was the organist and LeRoy Aasland was the soloist. Casketbearers were David LaPoint, Tom Cummings, Wade Jorde, Murray Jorde, Chris Jorde, Mark Spencer, Robert Lundbohn and Steve Jorde. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Chester Gilbert Jorde was born on March 15, 1924, the son of Carl and Emma (Olson) Jorde in Exel Township of Marshall County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. He attended school in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1941 and farmed on the family farm.

On September 14, 1951, Chester married Betty Christensen. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls until moving to Chicago. In Chicago, Chester worked in maintenance for several apartment buildings until 1988, when he retired. In 1990, Chester and Betty returned to Thief River Falls, where they have since resided.

Chester was very strong in the Lutheran faith. He enjoyed his family and friends, playing cards, bowling and spending time at the cabin in Lake of the Woods. He loved fishing, ice fishing and especially loved travelling. He was a member of Abundant Life Lutheran Church, Eagles Club and the Moose Club.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Thief River Falls; two children, Gary (Joan) of Grand Forks, N.D. and Bruce of Thief River Falls; two grandchildren; two brothers, Alfin of Blooming Prairie and Don (Grace) of Thief River Falls; three sisters, Myrtle Gist of El Cajon, Calif., Laura (Ed) LaPointe of Rochester and Doris (Ray) Spencer of Palm Desert, Calif.; a sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Chester was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Martin and Ruben; one sister, Evelyn Cummings; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and two nephews. A00003B2002DC18
