Winifred Johnson, 88

Menomonie, Wisc. - Winifred L. Burstad Johnson, 88, formerly of Red Lake Falls, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Myrtle Werth Hospital in Menomonie, Wisc.

Johnson obit 5/16 Funeral services were held Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Rev. Gary Graff officiating. Dawn Halvorson was the organist, and Dean Berend was the soloist. Casketbearers were Vannella Shefchik, Vannessa Shefchik, Megan Shefchik, Abby Berend, Ashlee Berend, Annie Berend and Desiree Radi. Burial was in Emardville Cemetery at Plummer with Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Winifred Louise Thompson was born September 8, 1912 in Huron, S.D., the daughter of Theodore and Mary Jane (Maxson) Thompson.

On November 15, 1933, she married Edward Burstad in Gervais township of Red Lake county. The couple farmed near Plummer. Edward died on November 18, 1974. Winifred moved into Plummer in 1977.

On July 25, 1981, she married Arthur Johnson. In 1984, the couple moved to Red Lake Falls. Arthur died on May 24, 1988, and Winifred moved to Menomonie, Wisc. in 1997.

Survivors include a son, Eldon (Joan) Burstad of Menomonie, Wisc.; three daughters, Beverly (Erhart) Olson of Fisher, Althea Theroux of Tucson, Ariz. and Dolores (Gene) Battleson of Isle; a sister Leota Scheuring of New Hope; a sister-in-law; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Winifred was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; three brothers, Harvey, Donald and Clayborn; a son-in-law, Gary Theroux; a sister-in-law; and a brother-in-law. A00003B2000MY16
