Theif River Falls - Richard L. Johnson, 61, died Thursday, January 29, 2004 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Reverend John Wollenzien officiating. Casket bearers included Northwest Medical Center Maintenance Department Employees. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Richard Lyle Johnson was born January 30, 1942 in Thief River Falls, the son of Andrew and Lucille (Hagness) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in Thief River Falls, where he grew up and attended school. He served in the National Guard and in the United States Army from 1962 until his honorable discharge in November of 1969. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Following his discharge, Richard worked at Arctic Enterprises.

On July 23, 1960, Richard was united in marriage to Esther Foss in Bagley.

He worked as a salesman for Intergraphics Decal of Canada, NW EXCSU Asbestos, which involves checking schools for asbestos, the Thief River Falls School District Maintenance and in 1989 he began working for Northwest Medical Center Maintenance Department.

Richard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, the American Legion Club, VFW and the International War Veterans Association. He enjoyed camping, golfing, woodworking, building model railroads, tinkering, gardening, lawn work and especially loved being with his grandchildren and visiting with friends.

Survivors include his wife, Esther of Thief River Falls; daughters, Vicki Johnson of Grand Forks, N.D. and Sherri (Delroy) Christianson of Thief River Falls; one son, Wade (Tammy) of Thief River Falls; five grandchildren; brothers, Sherman (Mona) Johnson, Gary (Shelva) Johnson and Dudley Johnson, all of Thief River Falls; an aunt, Bernice Fenske, Cando, N.D. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard was preceded in death by parents; brother Glenn and a sister Linda Brown. A00003B2004FB04
