Percival
"Percy" Irving Johnson was born in Thief River
Falls on May 6, 1916, the son of Peter H. and Magna
(Halseth) Johnson. He spent his childhood in Garnes
and Equality Townships of Red Lake County, where he
grew up and attended school. In 1934, he began fur
farming, which he continued for 36 years. He
attended the Hanson Mechanical Trade School in
Fargo, N.D., in 1942, completing the Master Arc
Welding course in January 1943. Percy lived in Two
Harbors from 1946 until 1948, when he moved to a
farm in Hill River Township of Polk County, which
he purchased in the fall of 1947.
On
June 9, 1951, he married Alvina Christianson of
rural Fosston and the couple made their home on his
farm. After discontinuing the fur farm in 1970,
they raised beef cattle and farmed small grains.
Percy retired from farming in 1995, but continued
to live on the farm, where he enjoyed hunting,
fishing and trapping. He entered First Care Nursing
Home in Fosston in March 2003. He was baptized in
the Lutheran faith and attended Mt. Olive Lutheran
Church in Trail.
Survivors
include his wife, Alvina; five nieces; four
nephews; sisters-in-law, Angie Johnson of Duluth,
and Eileen Christianson of Oklee; a brother-in-law,
Irvin (Ruby) Christianson of Trail; and numerous
cousins.
