 Fertile
- Norris Earl Johnson, 81, died on Sunday,
February 2, 2003 at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in
Fertile.
Funeral
services will be held on Thursday, February 6 at 11
a.m. at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile.
Visitation will be on Wednesday,
February
5 (today) from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at
7:30 p.m. in the Concordia Lutheran Church in
Fertile. Interment will be in Concordia Lutheran
Cemetery in Fertile with arrangements by Erikson
Vik Funeral Home of Fertile.
Norris
Earl Johnson was born on March 12, 1921, the son of
Helmer and Hulda (Nyen) Johnson in Sundal Township
of Norman County. He grew up on the farm in Sundal
Township, where he attended rural school. He
graduated from Fertile High School in 1939. On
September 4, 1942, he entered the United States
Army Air Corps. He was honorably discharged on
August 3, 1945. During his service years, he
attended Michigan State College in East Lansing,
Mich.
On
September 22, 1946, he married Karen Sandberg in
Fertile. From 1948 to 1949, he worked for John
Deere Implement Dealership in Fertile. In 1953,
Norris purchased the Culligan Soft Water Service of
Fertile and Thief River Falls. He owned and
operated the business until 1975, when he retired.
Following his retirement, he sold AFLAC Insurance
until 1983. He entered the Fair Meadow Nursing Home
in January 2003. He was an active member of
Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile Lions Club,
Crookston Wood Carvers and the Fertile American
Legion Post #238.
Norris
loved being with his wife. He enjoyed woodcarving
and mentored young woodcarvers. He also enjoyed
hunting, fishing and studying the
outdoors.
Survivors
include his wife, Karen of Fertile; three sons,
Earl (Dotz) of Detroit Lakes, Alan (Loura) of
Fountain City, Ind., and Mark (Debbie) of Grand
Rapids; four daughters, Sue (Dave) Jacobson of
Fertile, Peggy (Don) Gallagher of Crookston, Heidi
(Kent) Malone of Metamora, Ill., and Sarah (Dick)
Anderson of Snohomish, Wash.; 21 grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harvey
(Delores) of Minnetonka, Arlie (Beverly) of
Minneapolis, and O. Helmer "Bud" (Sharon) of New
Brighton; one sister, Beverly (David) Proctor of
Bryan Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Norris
was preceded in death by his parents; two infant
grandsons; and three brothers, Alton, and infants,
Kenneth and Norman.
