- Merle Johnson, 80, of McIntosh, died Monday,
March 15, 2004 at his home in McIntosh.
Funeral
services were held Saturday,
March 20 at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church
in McIntosh with Rev. Elton Jorde officiating.
Merle
Ellsworth Johnson was born on August 2, 1923 in
Holt Township, near Holt to parents Carl O. and
Mabel (Christenson) Johnson where he grew up and
attended Pioneer School.
Merle
served his country in the United States Army during
World War II.
He
was united in marriage to Ellen (Erickson)
Haagenson on February 7, 1953 in Minneapolis. After
their marriage, Merle and Ellen made their home in
McIntosh. Merle worked for Haagenson-Tranby
Construction Company. Later he purchased some heavy
equipment, including a dragline, and worked various
construction jobs until his retirement.
He
was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran
Church where he served as Trustee and was the
current Sexton of Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery.
He loved snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, making
lefse and flat bread and was an avid Minnesota
Twins and Vikings fan. Merle had many friends in
the community and he will be dearly missed.
Survivors
include one brother, Forrest of Holt; four sisters,
LaVerne Inman of Thief River Falls, Marion (Milton)
Davidson of Holt, Joyce Darragh of Puyallup, Wash.,
and Elaine (Leo) Lorentson of Gresham, Ore.; two
aunts and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife,
Ellen.
