Marion Johnson, 88

Karlstad - Marion Johnson, 88, died Monday, November 12, 2001 at Karlstad Healthcare Center.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 16, at Johnson Obit Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Halma with Rev. Gary Halverson officiating. Kirstin Olson was the organist, and the soloist was Ruth Halverson. Casketbearers were Freddie Anderson, Lorne Spilde, Severin Spilde, Rudy Dembiczak, Lee Folland and Clifford Davis. Interment was in Eidsvold Cemetery in Halma with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad in charge of the arrangements.

Marion Harriet Smith was born on October 30, 1913 at Minneapolis, the daughter of Arthur and Mabel (Martin) Smith. She grew up and attended school in Minneapolis and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On December 27, 1948, Marion was united in marriage to Henry O. Johnson at Halma. The couple made their home at Halma for many years, and Marion continued to reside there after Henry's death on March 14, 1986. She later moved to Oakwood Apartments in Karlstad and since October of 2000 had resided at the Karlstad Healthcare Center.

Marion was a long-time member of Eidsvold Lutheran Church where she was active as a member of the choir, Ladies Aid, Sunday school, Altar Guild, church council and as a deacon. From its beginning, she was an active member of the Halma Senior Citizens group, and she also participated in the Green Thumb program.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Carlson of Dilworth; two sons, Duane McNatton of St. Paul and Dean (Cheryl) McNatton of Bismarck, N.D.; a stepdaughter, Lola (Loren) Germundson of Karlstad; a step daughter-in-law, Doris Johnson of Halma; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Marion was preceded in death by her first and second husbands; her parents; two stepsons, Marvin and Lynden Johnson; three sisters, Vivian, Ethel and Annabell; a brother, Raymond; and two stepsisters, Myrtle and Hazel. A00003B2001NV21
