Thief
River Falls - Iola Johnson, 75, died on Friday,
September 5, 2003 at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in
McIntosh.
Funeral
services were held on
Tuesday,
September 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief
River Falls with the Rev. John Wollenzien
officiating. Casketbearers were Dez Schob, Gordy
Peterson, Brian Peterson, Tim Bulger, Mike Bittner
and Nathan Johnson. Interment was in Greenwood
Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Iola
Rose Papenfuss was born on September 24, 1927 in
Farmington, Wisc., the daughter of Antone and Laura
(Stephen) Papenfuss. She was baptized and confirmed
in Farmington, Wisc. She grew up and attended
Osceola (Wisc.) High School.
On
February 12, 1949, Iola was united in marriage to
Ormond E. Johnson in Farmington, Wisc. She was
employed as a waitress at the Thief River Falls
American Legion dining room for 33 years. She was a
member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River
Falls where she sang in the Senior Choir and taught
Sunday School. She was a member of the American
Legion and the VFW Auxiliary. Iola enjoyed
gardening, cooking, playing bridge and being a
homemaker. She especially loved spending time with
her children and grandchildren.
Survivors
include her husband, Ormond of Thief River Falls;
children, Douglas O. (Terri) of Roseau, Donald A.
(Peg) of Detroit Lakes, Susan R. Johnson of Citrus
Heights, Calif., James E. (Chris) of Blaine, Mark
W. (Linda) of Maple Grove and Mary J. (Dan)
Thorstad of Thief River Falls; 13 grandchildren; a
brother, Walter Papenfuss of Osseo; and a sister,
Beatrice Hinz of Osceola, Wisc.
Iola
was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents;
a sister, Rita Hinz; and a brother, Carl
Papenfuss.
