- Francis Johnson, 77, died Friday, April 6,
2001 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River
Falls.
Funeral
services will be held at
2:30
p.m. today (Wednesday, April 11) at Nazareth
Lutheran Church in Holt with Rev. Jay Borchert
officiating. Yvonne Larson will be the organist,
and soloists will be Colleen Johnson and Gail
Steinhauer. Casketbearers will be Darrin Green,
Larry Hagen, Michael Tuura, Dale Grondahl, Joel
Vattendahl and James Robertson. Interment will be
in Folden Cemetery at rural Holt.
Visitation
was held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 8 p.m. prayer
service on Tuesday, April 10, at Green Funeral Home
in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held
for one hour prior to services at the
church.
Francis
Hjalmer Johnson was born on October 4, 1923 in the
Village of Holt in Marshall county, the son of
Hjalmer and Emma (Stokke) Johnson. He was baptized
and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt.
He attended Holt area schools and graduated from
Newfolden High School in 1940.
On
December 16, 1945, Francis was united in marriage
to Viola Tuura at the Finnish Lutheran Church in
Middle River. The couple made their home near Holt
in Holt township of Marshall county where they
farmed, raising beef and dairy cattle and small
grains. Francis also worked as a heavy equipment
operator, working construction and clearing land.
For several years, he owned and operated a
construction company.
Francis
was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Operating
Engineers Local 49 and was a 50-year charter member
of the Eagles in Thief River Falls.
He
enjoyed feeding deer, gardening, hunting, ice
fishing, playing cards, working crossword puzzles
and especially spending time with his children and
grandchildren.
Francis
is survived by his wife, Viola of Newfolden; two
daughters, Susan (Ron) Helm of Newfolden and Lisa
(Stephen) Beuning of Brooklyn Park; four sons,
David (Emily) and Daryl (Ginger), both of Middle
River, Steven (Colleen) of Boulder, Colo. and Arlyn
(Asako) Ginowan City, Okinawa; two sisters, Ethel
Hyatt of Thief River Falls and Yvonne (Duane) Green
of Middle River; 13 grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and five
step-grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters,
Eunice Hagen and Eloise Gilbert; a brother, Vernon
in infancy; and three brothers-in-law.
