Evelyn Janette Johnson, 89

Eden Prairie - Evelyn Janette Johnson 89, of Eden Prairie, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at the Castle Ridge Care Center in Eden Prairie.

Funeral services will be held today at 11am in Johnson Green Funeral Chapel in Thief River Falls, with Reverend Wesley Langaas Officiating. Burial will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery at Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the Funeral Home.

Evelyn Janette Lawrence was born on Oct., 6, 1914 in York Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota daughter of the late Lee and Julia (Hovey) Lawrence. She was baptized and confirmed at LeRoy Lutheran Church, LeRoy, and had also spent childhood years near Harmony. In 1933 the family moved to a farm at Badger.

In 1936 Evelyn married Carl M. Johnson and they resided at his family farm, homesteaded by his parents in Polonia Township, near Greenbush. During the next 40 years they farmed and she was actively involved as a member in the Pauli Lutheran Church's Ladies Aid and WMF.

Retiring from farming in 1976, Carl and Evelyn moved into Thief River Falls, and from 1979 to 1989 they spent the winter months in Apache Junction, and Mesa, Ariz.

Carl died in Dec. 21, 1994, and Evelyn moved to Edina, the following spring to be near her family. She was a resident at Castle Ridge Care Center in Eden Prairie, at the time of her death.

Evelyn is survived by five Children: Kay (Curt) Melby of Palm Desert, Calif.; Marlin (Kathy) Johnson of St. Francis; Delaine (Carol) Johnson of Grand Forks, N.D.; Jan Johnson of Eden Prairie, and Erin (Dwight) Porter of Gravois Mill, Mo.: 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Lee in 1942 and Julia in 1987; her husband: Carl in 1994; brother Kenneth in 1974 and sister Glenice in 1984.
