Falls - Ernest M. Johnson, 89, died on Sunday,
March 9, 2003 at Falls Memorial
Hospital.
Funeral
services were held on Thursday, March 13 at Zion
Lutheran Church in International Falls. Interment
was in Forest Hills Cemetery.
Ernest M.
Johnson was born on March 8, 1914, the son of Edwin
C. and Minnie Johnson in Alkabo, N.D. On November
3, 1939, he married Virginia Ross. He later married
Elsie Johnson on June 23, 1944.
He moved
to International Falls as a child and lived the
rest of his life there. He graduated from Falls
High School in 1934. Ernest worked for Boise
Cascade for 43 years retiring from the Insulite
Control Lab in May of 1976. He loved to dance,
enjoyed music, playing cards, fishing, socializing
and water witching. He joined the Moose Lodge in
1935 and became a life member with 68 years of
membership. Ernest was Governor of the Moose three
times, had a Fellowship Degree in the Moose, State
Ritualist of the Year for the State of Minnesota
in1992, was a member of the Sons of Norway, he was
a long-time chairman of the March of Dimes,
president of the AFL-CIO and active with the DFL
party.
Survivors
include sons, Richard Johnson of Plymouth and Jeff
(Meg) Johnson of Internation Falls; a daughter,
Roberta Zoupas of International Falls; seven
grandchildren; the step-grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews
and godchildren.
Ernest
was preceded in death by his parents; his wives,
Virginia and Elsie; sisters, Vivian McMicken and
Esther Sabourin; a daughter-in-law; and a nephew.
