Thief River Falls - David Lee Johnson, 34, died on Friday, April 11, 2003 near St. Hilaire.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with the Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Craig Swenson was the soloist and Ida Nordvall was the organist. Casketbearers were Scott Novak, Steve Solheim, Mike Olson, Greg Ornquist, Craig Lawrence and Bruce Williams. Honorary casketbearers were the Thief River Falls youth and high school hockey players and coaches. Interment was in Greenwood Cemtery in Thief River Falls.

David Lee Johnson was born on June 25, 1968, the son of David A. and Pauline (Shervold) Johnson, in Bemidji. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1987. He attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. He was employed as regional sales and marketing retail manager for Land O'Lakes, Dean Foods of Thief River Falls. He enjoyed his co-workers and became good friends with many of his retail customers throughout the area. He was a member of the Thief River Falls Golf Club. Dave enjoyed sharing evenings and weekends at "The Acre" in Fourtown with his friends. He loved hockey and was involved in TRFAHA, Old Timers and the Varsity Program. He served as a coach at several levels, most recently as junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach.

Survivors include his parents, David and Pauline of Thief River Falls; sister, Delaine (Dave) Solberg of Babbitt; two nephews; his grandmother, Beulah Johnson of Bemidji; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Arthur Johnson and Oscar Shervold, and his grandmother, Nora Shervold.
