Albert J. Johnson, 96

Thief River Falls - Albert J. Johnson, 96, died on Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at the Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. Funeral services were held Johnson, Albert photo Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge, with Rev. Bob Dahlen officiating. Interment was held at the Goodridge Cemetery. Casketbearers were his grandsons. Honorary Casketbearers were his granddaughters.

Albert J. Johnson was born on March 31, 1907 to Peder Adolph and Bertha (Ellingson) Johnson near Goodridge, on the family's farm in Moylan Township, Marshall County. He was baptized on May 16, 1943 at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge. He grew up on the family farm and attended Moylan Country School. Albert worked farming in North Dakota, hauled ice to various businesses, helped build Highway #1 through the reservation, worked as a well driller, hauled milk in Duluth and all the while, did carpentry for many people.

On October 18, 1936 Albert was united in marriage to Gladys Tenold, at the Tenold Family Farm in Espelie Township. In 1953 the couple purchased a farm in Moylan Township, where they worked and raised their family. Gladys died on August 2, 1965. Albert sold the farm in 1971 and moved into Goodridge. On November 30, 1974 he married I. Theresa Wiseth and the couple continued to live in Goodridge. Theresa died on February 11, 1990. Albert continued to live in Goodridge until 2000, when he moved into Valley Home in Thief River Falls.

Albert loved to go hunting, especially deer hunting and ice fishing. He enjoyed watching wildlife, especially deer and birds. He loved spending time with his family, but most of all his grandchildren. He loved working in his yard and his woodworking shop and playing cards, whist and pinochle. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge.

Albert is survived by seven children: Myrtle (Orvin) Sunsdahl of Goodridge, Glenn of Jordan, Ruth (Ken) Sanders of Goodridge, Lila (Joel) Killoran of Minnetonka, Marlys (Mick) Hudson of Bloomington, Lois (Ron) Philipp of Thief River Falls, and Gary (Norma) of Goodridge; 25 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Emma (Donald) Mack of Oklee; four sisters-in-law: Verna Johnson and Gladys Johnson, both of Thief River Falls, Ruth Tenold of Anoka, and Pearl Johnson of Duluth; and many nieces and nephews; step children: Lloyd "Lars" (Sylvia) Wiseth of Goodridge, Kenny (Marilyn) Wiseth of Goodridge, Dean (Ione) Wiseth of Cottage Grove, and Jean (Sherman) Groven of Goodridge; step daughter-in-law, Ethel Wiseth of Goodridge; and many step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers: Johny, Elmer (Alice), Art, Bennie (Millie) and Oscar (Eleanor); two sisters: Gladys (Gunder) Grovem and Julia ("Doc") McCoy; 2 brothers-in-law: Leonard Tenold and Orvis Olson; two grandchildren; a son-in-law, Richard Sanders; a step son, Robert Wiseth; a step daughter-in-law, Elaine Wiseth; and step daughter and son-in-law, Bette and Bud Olson.
