Ahlert Johnson, 85

Thief River Falls - Ahlert Johnson, 85, formerly of St. Hilaire, died Sunday, November 25, 2001 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 29, at Abundant Life Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Wesley Langaas officiating. Bev Kays will be the organist, and soloists will be Jodie Davy and Darold Johnson. Casketbearers will be Randall Johnson, Brian Johnson, Garrett Johnson, Shawn Johnson, Walter Wicklander, Roger Davy and Darold Johnson. Interment will be in Community Cemetery in St. Hilaire.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, November 28) with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.
Ahlert Wilbur Johnson was born on April 18, 1916 in Mud Lake Township of Marshall County, the son of Edwin C. and Petrina (Peterson) Johnson. He was baptized on June 25, 1916 and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Holt. He attend Bungalow School in District 145 in Marshall County.
From April of 1942 until 1945, Ahlert served in the US Army, working as a blacksmith and mechanic.
On July 28, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy K. Wilhelm in Thief River Falls. Ahlert worked at the feed mill in St. Hilaire and Shetlers Hatchery before gaining employment as a carpenter with the Soo Line Railroad and as a truck driver for the B and B bridge crew. He retired after 27 years of service.
For the past 40 years, Ahlert had been a member of the Thief River Falls VFW and Eagles Club.
He enjoyed deer hunting, drawing, sketching, watching the Minnesota Twins with Dorothy, watching heavyweight boxing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Ahlert is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Thief River Falls; two sons, Ronald (Linda) Johnson of Thief River Falls and Douglas Johnson of St. Hilaire; eight grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Arnold, Herbert, Ernest and Kenneth Johnson; five sisters, Luella Sovde, Myrtle Gregerson, Palma Kolden, Anna Swan and Ruby Johnson; and a grandson, Eric Melby.
