Adrian Johnson, 80

Grygla - Adrian S. Johnson, 80, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 1, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Rev. Paul Knutson officiating. Kim Cleven was the organist, and the soloist was Jodi Schulz. Casketbearers included Duane Lian, Wayne Nomeland, Duane Langness, Jimmy Moe, Dan Nerud, and Tony Moe. Honorary casketbearers were Kelsie Moe, Bethany Moe, Josh Lian, Bill Bernstein, Karl Sundberg, and Clifford Engen. Military honors were accorded by the Grygla VFW and American Legion posts. Burial was in St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery in Valley Township of Marshall County. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Adrian S. Johnson as born on April 21, 1921 in Grygla, the son of Severine and Christine (Sunderland) Johnson. Adrian grew up near Grygla where he attended a country school and baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church. He helped on the family farm in Eckvoll Township until he enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 13, 1942. He served in Central Europe and England and was honorably discharged on August 4, 1945.

On June 30, 1950, Adrian was united in marriage to Edna Irene Christianson at Grygla. The couple farmed, making their home on the Johnson family farm in Eckvoll Township of Marshall County. Adrian and Edna milked cows with Adrian continuing to help out after retirement.

He was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and the VFW in Grygla.

Adrian enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, baseball, darts and watching sports on television. When he was in the Army, he did some boxing.

Survivors include his wife, Edna of Grygla; a daughter, Marcie (Gordy) Moe of Grygla; two grandchildren; three sisters, Gail (Palmer) Lian and Audrey Johnson, both of Grygla, and Joyce Reick of St. Paul; and several nieces and nephews.

Adrian was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey; his parents; two brothers, Art and Erwin; a brother-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
