Thief
River Falls - Harold Jesme, 69, died on Sunday,
May 4, 2003, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks,
N.D.
Funeral
services were held on Thursday, May 8 at Redeemer
Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with the Rev.
Karin Moberg officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the
organist and special music was provided by Lois
Peterson, Lois Anderson and the Beito Family.
Casketbearers were Floyd Jesme, Layton Oslund, Earl
Berg, Lowell Scramstad, Melvin Ellefson and Jerome
Berg. Honorary casketbearers were Curt Newman,
Lowell Pogatchnik, Clayton Troskey, Joe Krak, John
Hahn, Ron Johnson and George Edder. Interment was
in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Thief Lake
with military honors accorded by the Middle River
American Legion Post #444.
Harold
LeRoy Jesme was born on March 16, 1934, the son of
James and Pearl (Torfin) Jesme, in Wannaska. He was
baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran
Church. He started working in the potato fields
near Drayton, N.D., in 1949, and did various
farming and trucking jobs until he was drafted into
the U.S. Army in 1957. Harold was stationed in
Germany and Fort Ord, Calif., until July 1959.
Following his discharge, he worked for Bucyrus Erie
in South Milwaukee, Wisc., where he was a welding
foreman.
On
October 1, 1960, he married Arline Berg at Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Thief Lake. While
working at Bucyrus, he received his Mechanical
Engineering Certificate from the University of
Wisconsin, Milwaukee Institute of Technology.
Harold and Arline returned to Middle River in 1967.
He and his brothers purchased a hardware store and
owned and operated it until 1972. Harold then went
into manufacturing and welding. He worked as a
teacher at the Brainerd Vocational Technical
Institute, where he taught metallurgy, welding and
math. In 1977, he moved to Tower and began working
for General Electric as a manager of Mechanical
Projects until his health started failing in
1995.
Harold
enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with his
family. For the past two years, he has lived in
Thief River Falls.
Survivors
include his wife, Arline; two daughters, Joni
(Steve) Fletty of Falcon Heights, and Donna (Terry)
Mosher of Tower; two sons, James (Shannon) of Thief
River Falls, and John (Tina) of Tower; eight
grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Larson of South
Milwaukee, Wisc.; one brother, Merle (Lorna) of
Plummer; and numerous nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
Harold
was preceded in death by his parents; one sister,
Delores Palm; and a brother, Iver.
