Jahr, 80
Detroit
Lakes - Vernon A. Jahr, 80, died on Monday,
April 14, 2003 at his home in Detroit
Lakes.
Memorial
services will be held at a later date.
Vernon A.
Jahr was born on August 25, 1922, the son of Oscar
and Bertina (Iverson) Jahr, in Hitterdal. He grew
up and received his education in Hitterdal,
graduating from high school in 1940. He then moved
to Detroit, Mich., where he worked as a foreman at
the Candler-Hill Corporation.
On June
15, 1942, he married May L. Lee in Detroit. The
couple made their home in Detroit until 1945, when
they moved to Thief River Falls. Vernon spent the
next 38 years working for the Soo Line Railroad as
a brakeman and conductor. He retired in 1984 and
the couple moved to Big Cormorant Lake in rural
Lake Park.
Survivors
include his wife, May; three sons, Richard (Kathie)
of Plymouth, Danny (Jeri) of Osceola, Wisc., and
David (Karen) of Chicago; one daughter, Sherry
Solheim of Thief River Falls; five grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild.
Vernon
was preceded in death by his parents, four
brothers, and one sister.
