Martha Hultstrand, 45

Bismarck, N.D. - Martha Hultstrand, 45, died on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 near Milton, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 14 at Hegland Lutheran Church in Strandquist with Rev. Philip Rokke officiating. Orpha Schaffhauser was the organist and the duet of Emory and Jennifer Flaten sang "I Asked the Lord" and "Yes, I Know." Casketbearers were David Hultstrand, Mike Parrott, Joe Gartner, Jerome Boen, Luis Valdez and Jim Bakken. Interment was in Soper Cemetery, rural Fairdale, N.D.

Martha Beth Haugen was born on January 31, 1957, the daughter of Daryl Ibsen and Lucille Alvina (Nowacki) Haugen in Karlstad. She attended school in Strandquist and graduated from Strandquist High School in 1975. Following high school, she attended AFL Bible School in Minneapolis and North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. majoring in home economics and music.

On July 24, 1982, Martha was united in marriage to Randy James Hultstrand at Hegland Lutheran Church. She was involved with the Home School Association and Shiloh Christian School. She student taught at Carrington, N.D. and began her teaching career in Robinson, N.D. Martha was a homemaker and teacher of their children and also helped on their farm near Milton, N.D. The couple lived in Devils Lake, N.D. for a time before moving to Bismarck, N.D. where they have lived for the last five years. Martha enjoyed home schooling their children.

Survivors include her husband, Randy of Bismarck, N.D.; four children, Amy, Angela, Alyda and Aaron, all at home; her mother, Lucille Haugen of Strandquist; one brother, Curtis (Marilyn) Haugen of St. Louis Park; two sisters, Deborah (Jerome) Boen of Strandquist and Rebekah (Luis) Valdez of Maple Grove; and several nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elizabeth and her father, Daryl. A00003B2002SP18
