Evelyn Hovet, 96

Thief River Falls - Evelyn Hovet, 96, formerly of Goodridge, died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Hovet, Evelyn Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, March 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. The organist will be Ida Nordvall. The soloist will be Van Swanson. Casketbearers will be Larry Langevin, Dale Langevin, Ryan Hovet, Dale Anderson, Terry Anderson and Tim Anderson. Interment will be at Eklund Cemetery, rural Goodridge, Minnesota.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m., Wednesday, March 5 at Johnson Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls, with a 5 p.m. prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Evelyn Anderson was born October 23, 1906, the daughter of Magnus and Mary (Kompelien) Anderson in Cottonwood. She was baptized at St. Lucas Lutheran Church in rural Cottonwood. The family moved to Malthy, S.D., for two years and then moved to Minneota. She attended country school in District 99. In April 1915, the family moved to Erie, where she attended school district 59 and also attended the Agricultural College in Crookston. Evelyn was confirmed at Eklund Lutheran Church in Goodridge.

On August 14, 1929, Evelyn was united in marriage to George R. Hovet in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Star Township until 1943, when they moved to Highlanding Township to farm. In 1967, they sold their farm and moved to Thief River Falls, where she worked as a baker and cook at Northwest Hospital for 27 years.

Evelyn was a member of the Ladies Aid at Eklund Lutheran Church, Goodridge and at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. She liked to cook, bake, knit and quilt. She was known for her doughnuts, lefse and rolls.

Survivors include her children Marian (Tom) Bessette of Clintonville, Wis.; Arlene (Vern) Vad of South Milwaukee, Wis.; Myrna (Art) Bessette of Clintonville, Wis.; Duane (Jo Anne) of Shawano, Wis.; Ronald (Ann) of Homosassa, Fla.; Vernon (Carol) of Wautoma, Wis.; Roger (Vera) of Thief River Falls and Curtiss (Sharon) of Casper, Wyo.; 34 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruby Anderson and Mildred Hovet, both Thief River Falls and Kathryn Hovet, Goodridge.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son Gordon and a son in infancy; a grandson and granddaughter, brothers Jesse, Selmer, Norman, Orvin and Harold; a son-in-law; and a grandson and granddaughter.
