Mentor
- Vernon Hova, 74, died Wednesday, March 20,
2001, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo,
N.D.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23,
at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with Rev. Sylvia
Jerdee officiating. Casketbearers were Paul Jore,
Phil Jore, Dave Jore, Kyle Jore, Adam Jore, Ben
Jore, and Fred Hoel. Interment will take place in
the spring in Broderheim Cemetery, rural Erskine.
Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine is in
charge of the arrangements.
Vernon
Bryce Nathaniel Hova was born on April 29, 1927
near Mentor, the son of Henry and Alba (Anderson)
Hova. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran
faith. He grew up in the Mentor area and graduated
as valedictorian of his class at Mentor High
School. After graduation, Vernon lived near Mentor
and farmed in Woodside Township. He was also a
welder and machinist, doing work from his shop on
the farm.
He
was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in
Mentor.
Vernon
enjoyed storytelling, studying history, especially
the World War II era, reading, hunting, and
attending the Annual Steam Threshers Reunion at
Rollag each year.
Survivors
include an aunt, a foster sister, a foster brother,
several cousins, a brother-in-law, and several
other relatives.
Vernon
was preceded in death by his parents and a sister,
