Genevieve Homstad, 81

Thief River Falls - Genevieve Homstad, 81, died on Friday, January 3, 2003, at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. Homestad, Genevieve

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 6 at Sion Lutheran Church in Lancaster with Rev. Tim Lundeen officiating. Diane Rice was the organist and a duet was sung by Galen Nordin and Faye Whitlock. Casketbearers were Jacob Homstad, Stacy Stratton, Chad Satterlund, Kyle Cedergren, Brian Sandahl and Christopher Hanson. Honorary casketbearers were Genevieve's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Interment was in Two River Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hallock.

Genevieve Irene Keuhn was born on December 31, 1921, the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Ellsworth) Keuhn in Mercer County, near Mill Grove, Mo. She lived in Modena, Mo., Hamilton, N.D., Pembina, N.D., Hallock, Karlstad and Greenbush prior to age 20. Genevieve graduated from Lake Bronson High School in 1939 with honors. Following high school, she attended Normal Teachers Training in Thief River Falls. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse near Hazel for a short time. She also worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Thief River Falls for a few years.

On July 31, 1946, Genevieve was united in marriage to Clifford Francis Homstad in South Dakota. The couple lived in Thief River Falls and International Falls for a short time after they were married and settled on the family farm in Hazelton Township of Kittson County. They farmed for several years. Genevieve worked at Kittson Memorial Hospital in Hallock as a nurse assistant until her retirement in 1987. In 1988, the couple moved to Thief River Falls.

Genevieve enjoyed sewing, traveling, reading, crocheting, quilting and watching the Minnesota Twins. She was very active in Two River Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford of Thief River Falls; six children, Deanna (Lester) Hanson of Torrance, Calif., Marcia Sandahl of Thief River Falls, Jennifer (Marshall) Vagle of Thief River Falls, Jeffrey (Annette) Homstad of Hallock, Cynthia (Ken) Cedergren of Thief River Falls and Kimberley (Jerry) Stormo of East Grand Forks; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Keuhn of Carlton; three sisters, Carol (Harold) Johnson of Detroit Lakes, Frances (Gilbert) Lange of Richfield and Lila (Norman) Wink of Hancock; and several nieces and nephews.

Genevieve was preceded in death by a son, Milo; her parents; two sisters, Christine Kenyon and Beatrice Hutchinson; and a brother, Keith Keuhn. A00003B2002JA08
