Thief
River Falls - Clifford Homstad, 87, died on
Friday, August 1, 2003 at Oakland Park Nursing Home
in Thief River Falls. 
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday, August 5 at Sion
Lutheran Church in Lancaster with the Rev. Tim
Lundeen officiating. Casketbearers were Nathan
Satterlund, Chris Hanson, Brian Sandahl, Jacob
Homstad, Kyle Cedergren and Matthew Vagle. Honorary
casketbearers were all of Clifford's grandchildren
and great-grandchidren. Interment was in Two River
Cemetery in Hallock.
Clifford
Francis Homstad was born in rural Hallock on
September 29, 1915, the son of Elias and Annie
(Johnson) Homstad. He grew up in rural Hallock and
attended Riverside School District and graduated
from the Agricultural College in Crookston in 1935.
He worked in California and Washington and returned
home for a time before entering the United States
Army in 1942. He served for three years, stationed
in Italy and the United States during World War
II.
On
July 30, 1946, he married Genevieve Irene Keuhn in
Eureka, S.D. The couple lived in International
Falls, where Clifford worked for a paper mill. They
returned to the Homstad family farm in 1947, where
they farmed for many years. Clifford also worked
for Hallett Construction from 1959 until 1969. They
retired to Thief River Falls in 1988. Clifford
resided at Oakland Park Nursing Home since February
2002. He enjoyed reading, politics, farming and
studying religion. He was an active member of the
Farmers Union, served on the Lake Bronson School
Board and the Kittson County FHA Board. He was also
an active member of the United Church of
God.
Survivors
include six children, Deanna (Lester) Hanson of
Torrance, Calif., Marcia Sandahl of Thief River
Falls, Jennifer (Marshall) Vagle of Thief River
Falls, Jeffrey (Annette) Homstad of Hallock,
Cynthia (Ken) Cedergren of Thief River Falls and
Kimberley (Jerry) Stormo of East Grand Forks; 15
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two
step-grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Brown of
Hallock, Lenore Foss of Grand Rapids and Myrtle
Boring of Ventura, Calif.; and several nieces and
nephews.
Clifford
was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve; son,
Milo; his parents; one brother, Maurice; and two
sisters, Beulah Soderberg and Lorraine Homstad, who
